HOW TO CHOOSE A COSMETIC DENTIST
By Michael P. Sharp D.D.S. on June 29, 2017
How do you begin?
While every dentist is a health professional, some dentists are more interested, knowledgeable, experienced and artistic when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. More complex issues will definitely require a greater degree of expertise. The more extensive the work, the greater the skill level that will be required. Like everything we buy, there is a lot of variation in the quality and price. Everyone loves a bargain but will it get you what you want? Creating beautiful natural smiles requires a great deal of time, knowledge of dental materials, artistry and skill. Depending upon your needs and the combined skill of your cosmetic dentistry team, the level of artistry achieved will invariably be reflected in the price.
At Sharp Smile Center, people often start by talking to others who have come to our office and had a great experience with cosmetic dentistry. As you research, it’s important to check out examples of the cosmetic dentist’s work. Be aware that commercially produced before-and-after examples do exist, so it’s important to verify that the photos you are seeing are actual patients of the cosmetic dentist.
Keep in mind that cosmetic dentistry is different than other dental specialties (orthodontics or oral surgery for example) in that there are no criteria dentists must meet or exams they must pass to be able to call themselves a cosmetic dentist; any dentist who wants to can adopt the title. However, there are organizations that accredit (certify) dentists in cosmetic dentistry and the process is quite rigorous. There is a credential administered by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry that is available to all dentists and laboratory technicians world-wide. To receive the credential, a dentist must complete a demanding testing process, including: a written exam; documentation of five specific types of clinical cases; participation in continuing education classes and passing a final oral exam. All stages of this process are peer-administered meaning dentists who are already credentialed oversee it. The AACD also conducts extensive training to dental professionals in all aspects of cosmetic dental techniques, materials, and scientific advances. There are many choices when it comes to changing your smile. Here are some examples of Dr. Michael Sharp’s patients.
In office whitening can give you just the boost you are looking for!
Simple “no prep” veneers can fill in gaps and reshape teeth, and are a minimally invasive option
Age, old deteriorating filling and wear can be transformed when combining veneers and full coverage crowns.
When there is tooth loss, implants can replace missing teeth. Other teeth here were crowned or veneered togive this patient full function and the confidence to smile
When teeth cannot be saved, teeth can be attached to implants where form and function can be restored—a great alternative to conventional dentures.
The Sharp Smile Today same day "All-on-Four" tooth replacement gives you back your smile!
We would love to show you what a difference our world-class dentistry can make. Our friendly staff looks forward to hearing from you!
“Eight implants and many crowns later, I have a smile to be proud of. With the aid of sedation, we got a lot done in a short time. THANK YOU Dr. Sharp and staff for getting me through my dental problems.” Gene
