What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are made of thin porcelain and are designed to match the shape and color of your smile. The porcelain is attached directly to the front of your tooth to conceal blemishes such as internal stains, chips, and small cracks. Dental veneers can also refine the shape of irregular or disproportionately small teeth. In some cases, Dr. Sharp may even use dental veneers to perform “instant orthodontics,” closing small gaps in your smile or enhancing slightly crooked teeth.
We proudly offer unique minimal-prep and no-prep dental veneers. These are more realistic than those from big name brands and preserve more of your natural tooth. Furthermore, minimal-prep and no-prep dental veneers will require little, if any, alteration of your natural teeth. If minimal-prep veneers are in your best interests, we will carefully prepare your teeth, removing a very small amount of enamel to allow the veneers to lay flat.
Sharp Smile Center is dedicated to preserving as much of your natural tooth structure as possible when performing cosmetic dentistry and other treatments. When providing veneers, we are not simply concerned about aesthetics. We also want you to enjoy a strong, enhanced, and functional smile. Using this responsible approach to aesthetics, we will alter only the areas that need to be adjusted for function and appearance.

Planning Your Treatment and Placing Your Dental Veneers
When it comes to dental veneers, we are not simply concerned about aesthetics. We also want you to enjoy a strong, enhanced, and functional smile. With advanced training from true masters in cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Sharp is meticulous in the planning process:
We will first determine whether you are a candidate for veneers and whether minimal-prep or no-prep veneers are more appropriate for you. The doctor will ask you about your dental history and cosmetic goals before recommending the most appropriate treatment. If veneers seem like a good fit, we can proceed to the next step.
Following any initial prep work, we will create a wax-up template, showing exactly how your dental veneers should look. You will be included in this process, so that you can play an active role in planning your treatment. Your dentist will also create a multi-media presentation of designs and specifications. We will send all of this information, along with photos of your smile, to our dental lab.
For the last 20 years, we have worked with the same small laboratory. Because they focus exclusively on specialty aesthetics, they consistently provide stunning veneers that are virtually identical to natural dental enamel. It will typically take about three weeks for the lab to craft your restorations. The skilled technicians will carefully fabricate them to match the color, shape, and contours of your custom designs and smile.
While you wait, Dr. Sharp can provide temporary veneers, made from your wax-ups. With these temporaries, you can try veneers in your smile before the porcelain is permanently attached to your teeth. If necessary, we can adjust their fit to ensure that your smile remains comfortable.
When the final veneers are finished, your dentist will securely affix them to your teeth. After this second appointment at our office, you will leave our office with a striking smile and overall enhanced appearance.
I am a dentist who has reviewed Dr. Sharp's work, and found it flawless and beautiful. Dr. Michael Sharp is known far and wide among fellow dentists as one of the best dentists in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Porcelain Veneers FAQ
How long do veneers last?
As long as you take proper care of your veneers, you can expect the traditional options to last 10 to 15 years. No-prep veneers typically last five to seven years before the porcelain becomes compromised.
How do I care for them?
Caring for your veneers is basically no different than caring for your natural teeth. Be sure to brush twice and floss at least once each day, and attend your six-month dentistry checkups. Meanwhile, you can further protect your investment by avoiding using your veneers to open packages, bite your nails, or bite into especially hard or sticky foods.
What if I decide I don't want veneers any longer or choose not to replace a damaged veneer?
It depends on the type of veneer you have received. Since traditional veneers require removal of tooth enamel, the teeth that have been prepped for this solution will always require some kind of restoration for support. However, no-prep veneers and most minimal-prep veneers are completely reversible.
