Sharp Smile Center offers many distractions to take your mind off of dental work such as headphones with music and Temper-Pedic foam chairs. We have skylights in many treatment rooms, and some of the treatment rooms are in a solarium with a nice, relaxing atmosphere.

However, for some patients this is not enough.

If you are fearful or anxious about dental work, rest assured that Sharp Smile Center dentist Michael P. Sharp has been helping fearful dental patients with sedation dentistry for nearly ten years. You may also choose sedation dentistry if you are having a dental procedure that is lengthy or stressful, such as a root canal or wisdom tooth extraction.

Here is what you can expect during your visit: You will need to arrange for transportation to and from Sharp Smile Center. Dr. Sharp will give you an oral medication, triazolam (Halcion®). This allows you to nap and rest comfortably during your dental visit and seems to erase anxiety and fear. It has a high level of safety and is very similar to diazepam (Valium®). However, triazolam wears off more quickly than diazepam, making it more convenient for patients. You may also use nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which is inhaled through the nose using a small inhaler. You can be assured that your dental care is properly performed while you remain safe and comfortable. Many patients don't remember having the work done at all. Best of all, post-visit symptoms are markedly reduced.
