Lumineers are one brand of porcelain veneers that has been heavily promoted through advertising. While they are very similar to other brands, there are some differences which we will explain here.

Lumineers are made with a type of porcelain that is stronger than other types. As such, they can be made a little thinner than some other brands. Traditional porcelain veneers are made 0.5 millimeter thick. Lumineers are typically 0.3 millimeter thick.

But there are other brands of porcelain that are also extra strong and can be made to this same thinness. So Lumineers aren't really unique.
One problem that Dr. Sharp sees with the Lumineers brand of porcelain is that because of trademark restrictions imposed by the manufacturer of the Lumineers porcelain, these veneers have to be made in their large, commercial laboratory in California. Because of their extra thinness, Lumineers and similar brands such as DURAthin and Vivaneers can sometimes be placed without any tooth reduction.
