Dr. Sharp doesn't believe in putting harmful substances in tooth restorations. He would be considered a holistic dentist.
|
His treatment philosophy is that he wants to try to preserve the natural dentition as much as possible. Natural tooth enamel is much preferable to any restorative material we have, and wherever it can be preserved, that's what he does.
As a holistic dentist, he's concerned with putting mercury into people's mouths, but is also concerned about taking it out. Removing mercury-containing amalgam can cause a lot of exposure to mercury dust, both by breathing it and swallowing it. What can be done is that the tooth can be isolated and the patient draped to minimize exposure to these toxic substances.
