While we’re making arrangements for your emergency dental appointment, there are some steps you can take by yourself that may temporarily alleviate your pain or injury somewhat:
Typical Dental Emergency Issues
1) A Broken Tooth: Please call us as soon as you can. Use some warm water to rinse out your mouth. Try to get a cold compress or ice bag, and apply it to the affected area to keep the swelling down.
2) A Toothache: Start by rinsing out your mouth, including the pained area, with some warm water. Then gently check with some dental floss for food or debris that may be stuck between your teeth. Do not try applying aspirin or other painkillers directly to your gums. People often attempt this, but it can burn and damage your gum tissue.
3) Tooth Knocked Out: Call us right away. Try to recover and save the tooth, and rinse off its roots without removing or scrubbing the tissue. You can try and re-insert the tooth, or you can simply put the tooth in a glass of milk and bring it to our office.
Please remember that any kind of pain is a sign that something is wrong. If the pain stops, do not assume that the problem is gone. Make sure you visit your emergency dentist as soon as you can. |
